The World.
So much amazes me about this vast planet, but I have to say that the way in which people run the world is the most fascinating. Take my AP World Literature class for example; today we discussed hunger and poverty, child support, and those people who just have too many kids. It all started on the subject of teen pregnancy and how one fifteen year old girl had her FOURTH child just so her child support check would be higher. This amazed me. She was fifteen and going on her fourth kid. Holy Cow! But, it got even more interesting. We got on the topic of how our government shouldn't even give money to these people, for if there wasn't any government money to support them, then they wouldn't have as many children. I, for one, disagree with this. However, as it turns out, my best friend does. This same best friend who reminds me everyday about the starving children in Africa. Now this is quite trivial to me; how can she be so concerned with the African children, when there are children in America starving. Don't get me wrong, we do need to help the Africans, but we also need to be conscientious of our own people. Yes, these people in question have an uncontrollable amount of children, but if you take away their government help, they still won't have the gumption to get up and get a job. Those children will starve and then where will we be? Just like our African counterparts; hungry and malnourished. I am a firm believer in helping everyone achieve a better life, I plan on joining the Peace Corps, but I think it should be done in a more plausible way. Instead of just taking away all their government help, why don't we assist them in finding jobs and helping them get on their feet. We have to remember that it isn't just low lives receiving government assistance, some people really do need help. My mom did, and she worked for what she had, even if it wasn't much. I just hope that before people go gallivanting off into a third world country, they'll step back and take a good look at ours, and hopefully use some of their good will energy to help those less fortunate in America.
